FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(May 14, 2015 – Houston, TX) — Local surfer, Naradah Tisdel has partnered with Select Contracts to try to bring the largest surf park in the world to surfers in the Gulf Coast. Tisdel, a medical laboratory scientist and DJ, has decided to share his passion for surfing with the growing community of locals and tourists in need of good surf. A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to raise funds to draft the plans for the park called Surf Republic. It “has the potential to lower barriers of entry into the sport,” and will “impact tourism, health and wellness, economic development, the surfing community, the start-up community, general business community, themed attraction community, [and] action sports community.”
Surf Republic aims to be both an exciting surf destination and relaxing getaway for locals and tourists alike, regardless of their skill level. It could add jobs to the local area while supporting local surf shops that cater to the growing surf community in the Gulf Coast including the Greater Houston area–an area that sees anywhere from 10-13 million visitors annually.
Despite irregular surfing conditions, the Texas surfing community has seen remarkable growth in the last decade. Tisdel’s Surf Republic seeks to give the locals what they have been waiting for, while also catering to tourists looking for an unbeatable vacation experience. The plans as of now include bar and restaurant areas, and a conference facility for corporate groups in the park. Locals and tourists from all over the world could one day experience surf that is perfect for all ages if the campaign funds the first steps of this major undertaking.
Tisdel conjured up his grand vision and traveled to Wadi Adventure, a surf park near Dubai, UAE to look in to what makes an unbeatable international attraction. What he saw was a surf park that attracts surfers from all over the world. Since then, he has been working with Select Contracts, the firm that created Wadi Adventure, to bring an even better experience to the dedicated surfers of America and the world that live near or travel to the Gulf Coast.
A Kickstarter project has been started to raise $15,000 dollars to complete development of the concept master plan, concept drawings and draft renderings of Surf Republic. This will be the first crucial step before bringing the idea to fruition and making Houston one of the world’s leading surf spots. Tisdel has also approached Houston Area Economic Development officials and the CEOs of many leaders in the surf industry.
Surf Republic strives to bring the feeling of enjoying world’s greatest surf in the tropics to the booming city of Houston. If the project moves forward, it will be a world-class attraction with Southern hospitality. It hopes to breathe new life into the most unlikely, yet most enthusiastic surfing communities and give the area ample opportunities to thrive.
